  Grading Frequently Asked Questions

How do I stay informed of my child's progress?

All parents should sign up for access to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal (IC).   This is where you may view your child's grades in all his/her classes. Please contact student services to set up a new IC account.

Suggestion: Set up alerts so that you may receive emails whenever you child's grade drops below a certain level, they miss a class period, or any grade is entered below a specified level.

What if my child is doing poorly in a class right now?

The best thing to do if your child is underperforming in any class is to reach out to the teacher immediately to find out what may be the issue and what your student may do to correct the low grade. The teacher should be able to provide you clear methods for your child's improvement of their grade.

I am concerned about a specific teacher, who do I contact?
My child has informed me that Mr. or Ms. So-and-So doesn't…(fill in the blank), who do I contact?

When you have a concern about a specific teacher it is always best to contact that teacher first. Provide the teacher the opportunity to clarify the issue at hand before reporting a complaint to the supporting departmental administrator.

Suggestion: When a parent-teacher conference is scheduled it is always best to include your child in the conference. It is more effective for the student to hear first-hand what is being shared and to be a part of the action plan for improvement.

What do I do if my child's teacher is not updating their grades regularly?

The first time this occurs, please reach out to the teacher to find out if there are extenuating circumstances surrounding the lack of update. If this is a chronic issue, please contact the teacher again (in writing) and carbon copy (cc) the department chair and departmental administrator, to make them aware of the issue.

Why doesn't the magnet office offer tutoring for students who are struggling in subjects?

The program does not endorse or promote any independent tutorial programs.  The best and first resource for academic assistance is the classroom teacher.  Then other members of that content or PLC.

When are the 7 points calculated and does my child need to have an 80 prior to the additional points in order to NOT have probation?

The seven (7) quality points are added to all honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses once the student has earned a final grade of a 70 or above.
