Frequently Asked Questions
Fulton County School (FCS) System's Office of Teaching and Learning is managing the magnet application process. The FCS Office will provide the list of applicants to our program office at least once every few weeks, at which time, confirmations and recommendation requests will be sent out. There is a confirmation screen once the application is submitted, but there is no automatic/immediate email confirmations sent upon submission of an application.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please triple check the accuracy of the email addresses and phone number provided in the application as this is our only form of contact for any issues that may arise with the applications.

Common Questions:
Will I receive notification to take the test once my application is submitted?
There will be no immediate invitation to attend magnet testing. As the completed application information becomes available to the Westlake Magnet Program Office, notification emails well be sent inclusive of the Entrance Exam logistics and appointment sign-up.

How many student is the program accepting this school year?
All students in the applicant pool earning a composite score of an 8.00 or higher will be accepted!

How does the program calculate the applicant scores?
Although our "proprietary formula" will not be share with our stakeholders please be reminded the Entrance Exam/Essay is but part of your student's application. Transcript grades/overall grade point average, discipline record, and educator recommendations are also parts of the formula.

My student currently receives 504/IEP Accommodations are they applicable for the Entrance Exam?
We can not guarantee that an academic accommodations plan will be accommodated. It is the families responsibility to provide the Magnet Program Office with a current copy of the official accommodations plan no less than 5 business days once you have registered to take the entrance exam. We will follow through on communicating back with you on what/if any of your students accommodations can be facilitated.

Is there anything else we need to know about the Entrance Exam?
Students are expected to demonstrate behavior in alignment with the expectations of a Magnet student throughout the application process, including during the administration of the entrance exam. Any student who violates the Westlake behavioral expectations and/or academic integrity requirements at any time on the day of the entrance exam will be promptly removed from the administration of the exam and their application will be automatically invalidated. ​

When will I receive my student's score on the Entrance Exam?
The notification communication (acceptance or denial) will contain only the student's composite score. No further details or information related to any portion of the scoring analysis will be shared regarding your student.

When will I know if my student has been accepted into the program?
Per Fulton County Schools, the notifications must begin to be communicated beginning February 15th.
