Who is eligible to apply as a 2024 applicant?
New applicants to the Westlake High Magnet Program must currently be either in the
8th. or 9th grade. The Westlake Magnet Program does not accept new students who
are either currently in the 10th-12th grades or transfer students from other magnet
programs. All applicants to the Westlake High School Magnet Program must be Fulton
County residents who are eligible to attend Fulton County Public Schools. Fulton County
residents who are zoned for Atlanta Public Schools are not eligible to apply.

What is the application process for 2023-2024 applicants?
The application process for the Westlake Magnet Program includes three (3) parts

Parents fill out the student information portion of the application

Students sit for entrance exam, administered at Westlake High School.​

Final transcripts (including middle school grades through first semester 8th grade), standardized test scores and discipline records are submitted to the Westlake Magnet office for review.

Students who do not currently attend a Fulton County School will be required to provide the name and email address of the person at their current school who is in charge of records requests. The magnet office will request these records, directly.

If your student attends an FCS Middle or High School, please do not request these records from the counseling office. Westlake will work directly with these schools to acquire the records.

How are applicants evaluated for 2024 applicants?
Applicants to the Westlake Magnet Program are evaluated on the following parameters:

Overall grade point average. Students must have an overall average of 80 or better, with no failing grades, missing grades, blank grades, NCs for any core classes, or incompletes/WF listed on the transcript. Additionally, students are expected to earn a minimum 80 in all core classes (math, science, social studies, language arts).

Discipline Record. Students must have minor to no discipline infractions on their record.

Westlake Magnet Entrance Exam. All applicants must take the Magnet Entrance Exam. Historically, the applicant’s knowledge and ability are assessed through any combination of English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Writing portions. The logistics of the exam administration will be shared directly with those families who have submitted a complete general FCS Magnet application!

Note: Students who violate the Westlake behavioral expectations and/or academic integrity requirements at any time on the day of the entrance exam will be promptly removed from the administration of the exam and their application will be automatically invalidated. ​

Teacher/Advisor Recommendations. Applicants will provide the names and email addresses of two educators (one of whom must be a current academic teacher) to complete an electronic recommendation form.
All categories will be measured and all students in the applicant pool scoring a composite score of an 8.00 or higher will be accepted!

What are the expectations of students once accepted for 2024 applicants?
Students who are interested in applying to the Westlake Magnet Program should be students who are academically motivated and willing to go above and beyond the normal expectations for students. Once accepted into the Westlake Magnet Program, annually students are expected to abide by the prescribed course of study for all core academic courses which includes:

Pass courses while matriculating at Westlake High School, including summer school, online courses, the College and Career Academy Program, Work-Based Learning, and any Dual Enrollment courses.

Maintain an overall numeric grade average of an 80 or above.

Earn a minimum grade of 80 in the highest course offering in all core academic courses (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) annually.

Remain on track and complete a Magnet Approved Pathway upon graduation from high school.

Junior & Senior Years…transition into the IB Program with a minimum of 1High Level (HL) or 2 Standard Level (SL)courses. More information will be shared during the rising Junior IB Academic Advisement Window.

***Students who are unable to fulfill these requirements will be placed on probation and risk removal from the magnet program. ***
